Final Score: Seaford 15 vs Lewes 5
Team: Steve Parker (Ollie Wiseman), Dave Longstaff, Bruce Carron, Pete Joy, Paul Joy, Phil Joy,

Seaford Vets welcomed Lewes III's to the Salts for a friendly game, which for some of them was their first game of rugby in years, although you would not have guessed this by the great level of skill in their game. Seaford took to the pitch with a combined age of 627 – a true vets team!
Seaford saw the first points of the game come from a fantastic try by Neil Furminger, braving the game after two years out due to being forced to retire with a neck injury. Danny Newby had gained the ball just outside his own 22 and powered through the Lewes players until he was finally tackled just inside the opponents 22. As he was going down, Newby popped the ball to Furminger who caught it running and continued on to break through the lone defender and dive the ball over the line. The conversion attempt feel just wide.
The game was fairly evenly pitched with both teams having good run on and possession of the ball. Seaford's second try opportunity came after twenty minutes but unfortunately the ball did not quite find its way over the line. Matt Garman was quick to act on the loose ball around the half way line, kicking it far up field into Lewes' 22. The race was on between Garman and two Lewes backs, unfortunately for Garman the backs just beat him to it and were able to drop on the ball and dampen any score hopes.
Lewes retaliated and caught Seaford by surprise with a speedy attack, picking a gap in the defence and scoring a try for their only points of the game; this went unconverted.
Seaford's second try came ten minutes into the second half. Seaford were driving the ball deeper into Lewes' half with phase after phase of play. Eventually Seaford found themselves yards away from the try line, with some excellent passes along the line the ball found the hands of Robin Lustead who drove forward and over the line. This try went unconverted but put the home team 10 points up against 5.
Lewes kept battling for the equalising points but were unfortunate not to find these. They were awarded a few penalties, all of which missed the target, and had an excellent opportunity for a second try but fortunately for Seaford, Richard Jones was there on the line to stop the attacker in his tracks and diminish any hopes Lewes had for the equaliser.
Seaford sealed their win with a third and final try by Jones. Seaford had again driven the ball deep into Lewes' territory and found themselves rucking on the try line. Despite several attempts to get the ball over the line it was not until Rich Jones got his hands on the ball that the defensive line was finally beaten and Jones dived over the line for a well deserved try.
Seaford Vets next fixture is Saturday 19th December when they travel away to face Hove Vets in what should prove a tough yet exciting fixture.
